Our client, a reputable player in the mining and construction sector, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join their team. The ideal candidate must have completed their SAIPA articles and bring at least three years experience. This role is instrumental in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and strong support across the business’s financial functions.Minimum Requirements:
- Completed SAIPA Articles (essential)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience
- Experience in the mining and/or construction industry (preferred)
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- Strong understanding of VAT legislation, cash flow management , and financial controls
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly management reports and financial statements
- Manage the VAT process including calculations, submissions, and compliance
- Handle cash flow management , forecasting, and monitoring of daily transactions
- Coordinate and lead the SARS audit processes and ensure compliance with all tax regulations
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Process and manage month-end and year-end closings including journal entries and reconciliations
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, taxation , and regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain financial controls and systems to safeguard assets
- Support and coordinate with external auditors and respond to audit queries
Accounts, Debtors & Credit Control
- Oversee the accounts receivable function and follow up on outstanding debtors
- Monitor credit limits, manage debt collections, and minimize credit risk
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of customer invoices and receipts
Asset & Stock Management
- Maintain the fixed asset register and oversee depreciation schedules
- Oversee insurance administration and ensure assets are adequately insured
- Reconcile and monitor stock balances , ensure physical stock counts are accurate and timely
- Implement controls to manage inventory costs and usage
Costing, Analysis & Support
- Perform cost analysis to support operational decision-making
- Provide financial insights and variance analysis on key expense categories
- Prepare budgets, forecasts , and assist with strategic planning processes
- Assist departments with financial data and administrative support as needed
Meetings, Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Attend finance and departmental meetings to share insights and updates
- Liaise with other departments, suppliers, auditors, and banks
- Support business improvement projects and system enhancements
Administrative & Support Functions
- Maintain accurate records and filing systems for all financial documents
- Provide backup support to finance colleagues during periods of absence
- Drive continuous improvement in financial and administrative processes
