A defence company in Centurion is seeking an R&D mechanical design engineer. As we continue to expand our research and development team, we are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Mechanical R&D Design Engineer to join us in our mission to create exceptional products.Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems for new products, with a strong focus on R&D activities.
- Perform detailed design analysis and simulations using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor).
- Conduct product testing, validation, and prototyping to ensure design feasibility, safety, and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, product managers, and manufacturers to ensure designs meet all technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate and select materials, processes, and technologies for prototypes and production components.
- Manage design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Analyze and resolve design-related issues and propose effective solutions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design and development processes within the R&D department.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (X+ years) in mechanical design and R&D, ideally within [industry e.g., automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics].
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo).
- Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and validation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills to present technical data and collaborate with teams.
- Experience with FEA, CFD, or other engineering simulations is a plus.
