Minimum requirements
- PhD/Doctorate in the Civil Engineering field of study and a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience.
- Sustained research track record of publications in accredited journals.
- Track record of supervision of postgraduates and leadership of research groups.
- Sustained track record of external funding.
- Evidence of collaborative linkages.
- Evidence of external engagement.
- Registrable with ECSA as a professional engineer or technologist.
Summary of duties
- Teach Civil Engineering subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Supervise postgraduate students.
- Coordination of the academic and research programs.
- Participation in community engagement projects.
Associate Professor
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Civil engineering
• At least 7 years of academic and/or professional experience.
• Evidence of sustained peer-reviewed publications, with at least 7 DHET-accredited research outputs in the past 3 years.
• Evidence of sustained successful postgraduate supervision, with at least 1 Doctoral and 2 Master's students to completion.

Senior Lecturer
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Civil Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Civil Engineering.
• At least 5 years of academic and/or professional experience in urban or transportation engineering design.
• Evidence of research and postgraduate supervision, with at least 3 DHET-accredited publications in the past 3 years.
Additional Recommendations
• Good communication and lecturing skills.
• A strong passion for teaching and research.
• Knowledge of engineering application software.
• Good research track record or relevant research experience and an ability and desire to advance research development in the department.
• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Summary of Duties
• Teaching, assessing, and supervising at all levels.
• Development of learning material for civil engineering courses.
• Responsible for modules per year following a fair workload distribution.
• Development of learning materials for different courses.
• Actively involved in research and/or post-graduate supervision in the department.
• Assist with administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or representative.
• Contribute to or lead curriculum design.
• Assist the department in the delivery of quality teaching and learning.
Headship duties
Duration
Five (5) years fixed contract, renewable for one additional term based on performance.
Summary of duties
- Dealing with student queries and complaints regarding the Department/Programme. Managing and supervising staff, which includes: -
- The allocation of workload.
- Approval of leave.
- Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards a student-centred department.
- Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development.
- Appointment of part-time and replacement staff.
- Programme and project budgeting.
- Enhancing Faculty projects, e.g., Postgraduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, FYSE, Orientation, Graduation.
- Represent the department in relevant fora.
