Job Purpose:

Our client is looking for a proactive and hands-on Retail Manager to assist in the day-to-day operations of their Fruit & Veg store in East London. This role reports directly to the Store Manager and is responsible for ensuring the sales floor runs smoothly, that customers receive excellent service, and that staff are working effectively as a team. The ideal candidate should be reliable, organized, and passionate about fresh produce and retail excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support cashiers, general workers, and merchandisers during shifts
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, stock presentation, and store hygiene
  • Ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO) and quality control on fresh produce
  • Handle customer queries and minor complaints with professionalism
  • Monitor and manage floor coverage and staff productivity throughout the day
  • Assist with training, motivating, and guiding staff to meet service standards
  • Step in during busy times to support tills, packing, or merchandising
  • Ensure promotional materials, pricing, and signage are displayed correctly
  • Perform opening and closing procedures when required
  • Assist with daily stock checks, identifying low stock, shrinkage, or spoilage
  • Report any operational issues or staff concerns to the Store Manager promptly
  • Promote a positive, team-focused work environment
