C, I & Automation EngineerOverview:As a Control, Instrumentation & Automation Engineer, your primary responsibility is to design, maintain, and enhance the control, instrumentation, and automation infrastructure at the Brits Formulation, Fill & Pack (FFP) facility. Your role ensures the efficient and reliable operation of these critical systems.In this role, you will lead improvements in control, instrumentation, and automation systems while providing first-level support for onsite manufacturing and automation infrastructure. You will work closely with Production, Engineering teams, Additionally, you will be responsible for supporting Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and their associated functions and safety lifecycle.You will also be required to provide standby support and plant assistance as needed.Only Degreed candidates will be considered for this role.Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Compliance
- Enforce safe work practices and procedures within the Engineering Department.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and adhere to all HSEQ standards.
- Design, implement, and maintain Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), ensuring safe shutdown operations.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 61511 standards for SIS design and implementation in process industries.
2. Engineering Standards & Regulations
- Ensure control systems comply with industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of industrial network engineering (Ethernet, Profinet/bus, Modbus/TCP).
- Ensure asset integrity as per legal and corporate requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and modifications.
3. Asset Condition & Reliability
- Install and maintain critical assets following company guidelines.
- Develop asset care strategies (time-based, condition-based, proactive maintenance).
- Keep asset care information updated in CMMS.
4. Automation Infrastructure & Systems Maintenance
- Maintain and support site manufacturing systems, including PLCs, SCADA, OEE, OT Network, and MES.
- Conduct functional analysis and create specifications for instruments, systems, and installations.
- Implement instrumentation design on P&IDs and compile data sheets, loop diagrams, and material take-offs.
- Calibrate field instrumentation and research digital transformation opportunities.
- Design electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and integrate control systems.
- Implement safety and alarm systems for process control.
- Conduct system testing and routine maintenance.
- Provide technical support for maintenance teams during breakdowns.
5. Control, Instrumentation & Automation Improvement
- Provide first-line support for SCADA, PLC, OEE, and automation systems.
- Optimize plant process systems and drive automation improvements.
6. Project & Capital Expenditure Management
- Design and develop electrical control systems and instrumentation solutions.
- Provide technical input for control system functional specifications.
- Specify field instrumentation and design integrated control networks.
- Conduct FAT and SAT for control systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage projects, budgets, and timelines.
7. Engineering Competence Development
- Organize and facilitate training on RCA, FMEA, and automation systems.
- Coach and train Maintenance Technicians in control and instrumentation.
- Develop engineering skills within the maintenance and operational teams.
8. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Process, Manufacturing Excellence, and P&S teams to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- BSc / BEng / BTech in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years in instrumentation and control maintenance.
- Minimum 3 years experience with SCADA and control systems.
- Advanced fault-finding skills on multidisciplinary control, electrical, and OT network systems.
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa, Siemens PLCs , and Rockwell Automation (advantageous).
- Knowledge of bus technologies (Foundation Fieldbus, ASI-bus, Profibus preferred).
- Strong experience in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) per IEC 61511.
- Process optimization, site maintenance, and plant support experience.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and engineering leadership abilities.
- Experience with Work Management Processes and CMMS (SAP PM, Maximo, or similar).
