Job Overview:
A Farm Manager oversees day-to-day farming operations, ensuring that agricultural activities run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Farm Operations Management: Plan and manage daily operations, including planting, cultivating, irrigating, harvesting, and managing livestock . Ensure equipment and machinery are well-maintained, and repairs are handled promptly. Optimize the use of farm resources, such as land, labor, and equipment, to maximize productivity. Staff Management: Supervision of farm workers, including seasonal labor. Delegate tasks based on the farm’s operational needs and monitor employee performance. Ensure staff follow safety regulations and proper procedures. Production Management: Monitor crop growth and ensure livestock health, addressing issues such as diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies. Make informed decisions on crop rotation, planting schedules, and livestock care. Plan and supervise breeding, feeding, and care of animals on the farm. Compliance and Recordkeeping: Ensure the farm complies with agricultural regulations, health and safety guidelines, and environmental standards. Maintain accurate records of farm operations, including crop production, livestock management, financial transactions, and maintenance schedules. Prepare reports for Directors on farm activities. Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship: Implement sustainable farming practices, focusing on water conservation, soil health, and eco-friendly pest control. Minimize waste, and optimize resource usage to reduce the environmental impact of the farm. Keep up with industry trends and innovations related to sustainable agriculture.Qualifications:
Education: A degree in agriculture, horticulture, animal science, or a related field is typically preferred. Relevant certifications in farm management or specialized agricultural knowledge may also be necessary. Experience: Several years of experience in farming, agricultural production, or farm management are typically required. Experience in managing teams and overseeing farm operations is essential. Skills: Leadership and management skills to supervise staff effectively. Knowledge of modern agricultural techniques, machinery, and farm management systems.
