Overview and Key Responsibilities
This role will be responsible for overseeing the provision of technically sound and commercially viable solution(s) on CT projects.
- This will be achieved by ensuring CT projects are designed and executed safely on time, in budget and are fit for purpose.
The role will provide technically sound and cost-effective solutions on special projects undertaken by the company.
- This will be achieved by providing clear scope and specifications while ensuring delivery of such projects is safe, on time and in line with the approved budget.
The role will oversee the execution of customer installation audit functions
- This will be achieved by identifying non-compliances on existing and new installations and facilitate the closure of such in line with company procedures, standards and relevant regulations.
The role will contribute to the development of critical knowledge base and skills to capacitate and build a pipeline of technically skilled team for Merchant Engineering.
The role will champion the establishment of a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Merchant Engineering.
Key areas of responsibility for this role include but are not limited to:
- Provide technical knowledge and expertise within the company and industry;
- Provide expert technical support to the relevant Business Unit(s) as required;
- Provide product, equipment and services expertise to support Business Units;
- Lead the process of ensuring compliance to Corporate, industry and legal codes of practice, policies, procedures and work instructions;
- Provide technical solution development expertise on requirements and product know-how;
- Provide timeous response to after sales technical issues on CT equipment and aim to resolve;
- Provide sound maintenance guidance and skills transfer to the engineering team
- Ensure the correct critical spares are available in all critical installations;
- Lead the scoping, costing and execution of company special projects in line with Project management principles, best practice and company procedures;
- Provide support and develop recommendations on new business activities, services and offerings;
- Manage compliance audit of the existing and new customer installations against the company requirements in line with the relevant legislation/regulations, international/national standards, codes of practice, Air Products global standards and corporate policies;
- Review, evaluate and recommend Project Engineers and Technicians suitability for SACGA registration;
- Represents the company on delegated industry working groups;
- Contributes to a centre of knowledge and technical skills development;
- Sound cost management and control in line with company rules and procedures.
Essential Requirements
- A Matric certificate;
- A completed Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering;
- Must possess a recognized Management Qualification;
- A Project Management Qualification;
- Registration or eligibility for registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa);
- A minimum of 15 years of related engineering experience within the Gas Industry;
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in maintenance, projects, installations or control systems;
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory role;
- Strong expertise in Instrumentation and Control Systems (PLCs, control logic/philosophy etc);
- Solid engineering design capabilities with a focus on technical solution development and problem solving;
- Demonstrable technical experience in freezing tunnels systems, oxy-fuel burner technology and gas mixing panels;
- Proven track record on project execution and technical skills within the discipline of specialization;
- Ability to function successfully in a multi stakeholder role.
