The role:
To ensure compliance to mine standards and COP’s with regards to Strata Control.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Comply with and ensure adherence to safety regulations
- Adhere to corporate governance implementation
- Conduct Inspections of roof quality
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all underground workers
- Ensure and enforce compliance and adherence to legislative requirements
- Compliance with the Emergency Preparedness and Response requirements
- Ensure the effective management of contractors
- Ensure change management process is implemented and communicated
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure compliance to the company’s Rock Engineering specifications
- Analysis of trends (i.e. Safety, Cost, Production, People)
- To collect sample, analyse and report test results of mine support materials and comply to ISO 9000 requirements
- Interact with customers and familiarize yourself with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities (e.g. HSEC & ISO issues)
- Budgetary control for laboratory materials
- Produce monthly invoices
- Conduct quality assurance tests on support materials
- Participate in and maintain compliance with a support quality assurance system (ISO)
- Participate in investigation (RCFA) of failed support units
- Draft 1SAP reports as identified and specified
Requirements:
- BSc Degree/Diploma in Mining Engineering / Geology or 2 Papers of COMREC or Mine Overseer Certificate or Mine Managers Certificate
- Chamber of Mines (CoM) Certificate in Strata Control (Coal)
- Safety & Risk Management courses
- A minimum 2 – 5 years of experience in Rock Engineering within the Coal mining industry
- In-depth knowledge of rock engineering practices
- Relevant mining environmental legislation
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite & Bentley Reader
- A valid driver’s license
Advantageous:
- Management Development Programme or equivalent
- Member of SANIRE
- Registered ECSA professional certified Strata Control Engineer
- National training certificate at least on NQF Level 4 or higher
- Experience in mining methods, mine planning & shafts / boxcuts
- Experience in the preparation of learning material as well as preparation
- Experience in U/G Production roof support on operations
- Strata Control / UG / OC mining analysis and evaluation skill
