Description:
- To ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the requirements of the Company’s safety management system, client’s safety management systems and all applicable acts and regulations.
- Promote a culture in which Health and Safety is the prime concern and will never be compromised.
- Implement and enforce the Client Safety Management System.
- Ensure that all of the Client’s health and safety requirements are met. If this is not possible for whatever reason, the Safety Officer is to report this to the Site Manager.
- Ensure that the required risk assessments are carried out. This shall include at least, but not limited to, Baseline , Issue Based , Operational Risk Assessments / Continuous Risk Assessments
- Ensure compliance to legislative requirements.
- Assist the responsible persons to ensure that all work is performed by suitably trained and competent persons. When this is not the case, report this to the responsible person of the area.
- Conduct daily site visual inspections, and report all findings immediately to the relevant responsible persons.
- Conduct weekly documented inspections of site conditions. These reports must be submitted to the Site Manager, Safety Manager and all relevant responsible persons.
- Compile an action log, with input from all relevant responsible persons, on the findings and corrective actions of all documented inspections.
- Compile a monthly HSE Task Schedule for all departments, including inspections, audits, meetings, etc. and submit this to the Company Safety Manager.
- Compile weekly and monthly HSE Reports, and submit them to the Safety Manager as well as the Site Manager.
- Ensure that the Management Team is informed of all their legal and contractual HSE obligations to comply with the Client’s requirements.
- Co-ordinate daily / weekly HSE talks (DSTI) by the Supervisors with their respective work crews.
- Encourage the participation of personnel in all site HSE promotional activities.
- Report all incidents and accidents, according to the established procedure, to the Client’s Safety Representative, the Site Manager, and the Company Safety Manager.
- Compile Flash Reports for all incidents and accidents, and submit these to the Client’s Safety Representative, the Site Manager, and the Company Safety Manager.
- Enter incident and accident data into the Client’s Incident Management System.
- With the assistance of an investigation team, investigate incidents and accidents fully, compile an investigation report with corrective actions, and distribute this to the required persons as per the established procedure. Ensure that the corrective actions are implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
- Co-ordinate all required training of personnel in HSE aspects.

- Incident Investigation (ICAM).
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
- Legal Liability, Fire Fighting, First Aid.
- 3 Years’ experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
- Advanced knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as the Construction Regulations
- Strong mechanical and technical knowledge.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Own transportation.
- SAMTRAC or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Registered with SACPCMP as CHSO.
- Incident Investigation (ICAM).
