Underwriting Analyst
Job Location: Remote to start, with a strong possibility of becoming hybrid (Foreshore, Cape Town) three days in-office
Working Hours: 9:00 AM - 6:30 PM SA Time
Reporting to: Risk Manager
Salary: R28,000 - R35,000 per month (negotiable based on qualifications and experience)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Underwriting Analyst to join our team. This role requires a high level of autonomy, analytical ability, and leadership skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing loan applications from start to execution, conducting in-depth due diligence, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This is a senior role with the potential to evolve into an office management and leadership position in Cape Town as the team grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage individual loan applications from initial review to execution.
- Conduct detailed due diligence on complex financial matters, asset valuations, credit reports, and financial status.
- Assess the prospective borrowers' background, legal case, and supporting documents.
- Compile asset schedules and underwriting reports.
- Identify risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all transactions comply with the company's Credit Policy.
- Adhere to compliance policies, including AML and data protection, in line with FCA regulations.
- Communicate with solicitors and borrowers via email and telephone to gather necessary information.
- Provide regular updates to senior team members on application statuses.
- Prepare and collate loan documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee office operations and assist in managing the growing Cape Town team.
- Potential to step into a leadership role as the team expands, ensuring the efficient functioning of the office.
Key Skills & Experience
- Minimum of four years experience in complex lending, financial services, or the legal sector.
- Previous experience in a leadership role is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with solicitors and senior management.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of cases.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong risk assessment skills, with an understanding of underwriting principles.
- High level of adaptability and ability to pivot in a fast-moving business environment.
- Experience in litigation or knowledge of FCA regulations is beneficial but not required.
- Self-starter with a proactive approach and a can-do attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle variable workloads.
