Managed People Solutions is seeking a Merchandising Manager to be based in Johannesburg, Gauteng . This role is responsible for overseeing the Sales and Merchandising Business Units (BU’s) , ensuring operational efficiency, cost optimization, and strategic growth. The position focuses on fostering strong client relationships, driving strategy formulation, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure that all costing models are developed for the various business units. Ensure that costs are optimized in accordance with these models.
  • Ensure that operational requirements take place with the budget provided for both the Sales and Merchandising BU’s and that no over expenditure occurs.
  • Effectively manage client relationships and customer satisfaction by reinforcing continuous communication, support, service excellence, imbedding of new clients etc.
  • Drive strategy formulation in both the Merchandising and Sales BU’s, by identifying relevant Strategic KPI’s and objectives and receiving input form relevant BUs in order to future proof BU’s and identify new business ventures and growth.
  • Oversee operations of the Merchandising Business Unit, and Sales Business Unit to ensure that operational and strategic objectives and deliverables are achieved, and that the department is able to perform optimally.
  • This includes the evaluation of monthly reports and dashboards received.
  • Effective management of MPS CMD to ensure that stores have been allocated in a way that optimises costs and operations.
  • Report on both the Merchandising and, Sales BUs on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Ensure that BI reporting is completed for both sales and merchandising business units, in line with MPS requirements decision making as well as client requirements.
  • Drive audit function within Merchandising and Sales BU’s. To drive compliance and improvements within Merchandising and Sales.
  • Ensure that monthly meetings are scheduled to understand the client’s business and engage in collaborative strategic planning, where MPS can bridge gaps for them.
  • Oversee and manage the implementation of ad hoc projects as requested.
  • Ensure that the priority reports listed by MPS are in development phased and that integration and report development is taking place effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure that all new projects are deployed effectively and efficiently and embedded for optimal performance.
  • Ensure that your knowledge pertaining to industry trends, challenges, changes etc. is continuously kept up to date.
  • Ensure continuous development and up-to-date industry knowledge and competence.
  • Ensure relevant policies and SOPs are up to date within the Merchandising and Sales BU’s by enforcing corporate governance.
  • Contribute towards informal succession planning and skills transfer within the team by, adopting a coaching and/or mentorship approach and teaching team members new learnings.
  • Review and develop of all Learning Academy-related policies, procedures, and SOPs, in line with the QMS project.
  • Adhere to all MPS-related policies and procedures and ensure best practice approaches in role.
  • Motivate, inspire, and empower team members to foster a positive work environment.
  • Facilitate open and effective communication and promote cross-functional and cross-company collaboration thereby contributing towards a diverse and productive work environment.
  • Facilitate regular check-in meetings with team members to discuss progress made on KPI achievement (performance), development opportunities (individualized guidance), and well-being (personally and professionally).

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree relating to Sales and Merchandising Management (NQF 7).
  • Post Graduate degree relating to Sales and Merchandising Management (NQF 8 or 9).
  • 10 years’ experience in a Regional Sales Management Role.
  • 5 years’ experience managing a merchandising or sales team.
  • Valid driver’s license.
