Maintenance Technician – Millwright - Cape Town

Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Technician – Millwright is responsible for technical support services, ensuring the maintenance, repair, and optimization of electro-mechanical equipment at the operations site. This role requires expertise in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, conducting preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical background, experience with SCADA and PLC control systems, and the ability to manage breakdowns, routine services, and new installations efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintenance & Repairs:

  • Perform routine services, repairs, and preventative maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Attend to breakdowns promptly and prioritize urgent jobs.
  • Ensure that all assets are clearly marked and managed within the asset register.

• Technical Operations & System Management:

  • Monitor and report on plant conditions to ensure efficient operations.
  • Assist in the specification, sourcing, and quality control of equipment required for refurbishment or replacement.
  • Ensure stock levels meet contractual requirements and operational needs.
  • Work with SCADA and PLC control systems to optimize performance.

• Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and ISO system requirements.
  • Implement safety and housekeeping standards at all times.
  • Apply sound administrative and control procedures to meet performance objectives.

• Project & Installation Support:

  • Assist with pricing, tendering, and implementation of new electrical, mechanical, and civil installations.
  • Provide technical expertise in installations, upgrades, and system improvements.

• Millwright Experience: 3 to 4 years

• Qualified Millwright, having completed an apprenticeship or equivalent training.
• Wireman’s license (3-phase) preferred or currently studying toward obtaining it.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance of large electrical and mechanical installations.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose issues quickly and accurately.
• Experience in SCADA and PLC control systems as well as field control instrumentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Valid Code 08 driver’s license – willingness to travel long distances and stay overnight when required.
• Ability to perform standby duties and respond promptly when needed.
• Proven track record of satisfactory past performance.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
