Our client is looking for a Departmental Manager - Upholstery to join their team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating departmental operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and alignment with company objectives. This role requires a proactive leader with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, capable of managing a team, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate production schedules and task allocation.
- Oversee and coordinate departmental process trials and changes.
- Ensure shift-to-shift coordination for seamless operations.
- Monitor work commencement and execution to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Track and report daily production results.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Ensure availability of parts, tools, and materials as required.
- Foster a positive team culture and morale.
- Address and resolve challenges encountered by team members.
- Facilitate team meetings and work-group sessions.
- Oversee training, cross-training, and coaching for team members.
- Conduct routine quality checks to ensure compliance.
- Enforce company policies, attendance, and corrective action procedures.
- Maintain departmental safety practices and adherence to regulations.
- Supervise daily clean-up and equipment maintenance.
- Audit and coach standardized work procedures.
- Coordinate with external departments such as R&D, Stores, and Maintenance.
- Facilitate collaboration with upstream and downstream departments.
- Oversee major maintenance activities affecting the department.
- Capture and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Develop and implement corrective action plans where targets are not met.
Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Upholstery background is non-negotiable.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a managerial role.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong administrative skills and structured approach.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and time management skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Salary: negotiable.
