Description:

My client who operates as an abattoir and supplier of meat products, is looking for an Ammonia Mechanical/Refrigeration Technician for their plant/factory in Stikland, Cape Town.
  • The ideal person will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of engineering equipment and machinery. The successful candidate will perform general workshop duties, work independently and within a team, and ensure the safety and efficiency of plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform welding, repairs, and general workmanship with power tools.
  • Understand and maintain conveyor systems.
  • Self-plan and execute jobs based on tasks provided.
  • Conduct maintenance repairs, fabrication, and installation of assigned equipment.
  • Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the supervisor/manager.
  • Develop, modify, construct, and install related equipment for the safe operation of engineering systems.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding maintenance activities and equipment restart status.
  • Maintain accurate job cards for completed tasks.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols for both yourself and your co-workers.
  • Be willing to work overtime, including late nights, weekends, and shifts, when required.
  • Apply knowledge of basic electronic structures.
  • Own transport is essential.
  • Work in various plant layouts, including indoor, outdoor, and rooftops.
  • Perform duties in a timely and safe manner.
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Ensure the proper use and maintenance of equipment as per design specifications.
  • Receive "on-the-job" training to become multi-skilled.
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision, ensuring reliability and responsibility.
  • Physical fitness required to work in confined spaces and at heights.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum 2 yearsâ working experience in general workshop duties.
  • Mechanical and general all-rounder skills required.
  • Red seal qualifications required.
  • Refrigeration and electrical knowledge required.
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and follow policies, procedures, and work practices.
  • Independent thinking and job planning capabilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Flexibility to work in different structures and environments.
  • Ability to take responsibility for assigned tasks.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in multiple trade fields.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Sober habits and punctuality are essential.
  • Must have own reliable transport.
 Working Environment:
This role is based in a production plant/factory, with the workshop being crucial to keeping operations running at full capacity.
