Our client, a leading integrated micro-utility company that is part of a leader in the alternative energy and the utility solutions sector in their Johannesburg or Somerset West office, providing cutting-edge microgrid and multi-utility systems for remote and off-grid environments, as well as commercial and industrial projects is looking for an experienced Project Engineer (Integrated Micro-Utilities & Off-Grid Systems) to join their dynamic team in their Johannesburg or Somerset West Office .
Role Overview:
This position is based in Somerset West or Johannesburg . However, flexibility and remote work can be considered for the right candidate.
As a Project Engineer , you will play a crucial role in delivering integrated micro-utility solutions, including power, water, waste, connectivity, and energy storage systems . You will report to the Engineering Manager , collaborating with the Project Manager and multi-disciplinary teams to implement scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable off-grid, commercial, and industrial solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, engineering, and execution of integrated micro-utility systems , including power generation, storage, water treatment, waste management, and connectivity.
- Integrate multiple utilities (power, connectivity, water treatment, and wastewater) into tailored, modular solutions for luxury safari lodges, remote camps, hospitality businesses, commercial, and industrial projects .
- Optimize energy efficiency by incorporating smart technology, monitoring systems, and automation.
- Ensure seamless integration of operational equipment such as kitchen appliances, cold rooms, WiFi backup, hot water solutions, and guest experience devices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (installers, EPCs, utility specialists) to enhance project execution and performance.
- Drive process improvements for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Support bid & proposal teams , including technical feasibility studies and cost estimations.
- Maintain compliance with industry standards, ensuring projects adhere to safety and quality guidelines.
Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in microgrid, renewable energy, or utility projects.
- Fluency in English (spoken & written).
- Strong technical expertise in power systems, LV/MV electrical equipment, switchgear, and energy generation .
- Knowledge of Microgrid systems, battery storage, renewable generation, and micro-utilities .
- Experience in utility-efficient appliances, water recycling systems, and energy monitoring solutions is an advantage.
- Experience in water treatment, wastewater management, or smart connectivity solutions is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to remote sites.
- Candidates with experience in water treatment, wastewater management, and smart utility integration—particularly from the water industry—would be highly valuable
