Description:
PURPOSE OF ROLE
To oversee and perform the installation testing and commissioning of Roof Top and ground mount Solar PV systems, ensuring compliance with national electrical codes and standards. The PV Electrician will be providing technical guidance for installation and maintenance and ensuring the safety and efficiency of all Solar PV projects.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Installation
- Mount solar panels on roofs or ground mounts according to design plans
- Install electrical wiring and components including inverters, combiners, and charge controllers
- Secure and connect solar panels to the electrical grid
- Perform system testing and troubleshooting to ensure proper functionality
Maintenance
- Regularly inspect solar panels for damage or debris
- Clean solar panels to optimize energy production
- Identify and resolve electrical issues within the system
- Perform preventative maintenance checks on system components
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to all safety protocols related to working on roofs and with electrical systems
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Follow local building codes and electrical regulations
Supervision and Training
- Supervise and mentor junior electricians, apprentices, and support staff
- Provide technical guidance and training to ensure high-quality workmanship
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend training programs as needed
Project Management
- Coordinate with other trades and contractors for seamless integration of electrical systems
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project progress
Customer Service
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanour with clients and stakeholders
QUALIFICATION
- Relevant Electrical Trade qualification.
- Valid wireman’s license issued by the Department of Labour (DoL) in South Africa.
- Registered Electrician / Master Electrician with the DOL will be advantageous.
- PV Green card advantageous
- PV Courses advantageous
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Solar PV and BESS experience

- Strong knowledge of national electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., SANS 10142-1) and OSH-Act
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications

Working Conditions:
