Description:
My client is seeking an experienced Imports Manager to oversee and manage the import operations of their business.- The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in an import management role within the retail, supply chain, logistics, or FMCG sectors, with at least 2 years in a managerial capacity.
A solid understanding of finance, specifically related to purchase orders, is crucial, as well as proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire import process, from order placement to product delivery, ensuring compliance with regulations and timely execution
- Manage relationships with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs agents to ensure smooth import operations
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate forecasting and inventory management
- Ensure all necessary documentation for imports, including bills of lading, invoices, and shipping documents, are accurately processed and filed
- Negotiate freight rates and terms with suppliers and logistics providers
- Review and approve purchase orders, ensuring that they align with budgetary and financial goals
- Monitor import costs, tariffs, and duties to minimize expenses and optimize profitability
- Track and analyze import performance, providing regular reports and recommendations to improve processes
- Ensure compliance with import regulations, customs, and trade laws, including documentation, permits, and certifications
- Implement and improve import procedures to streamline operations and reduce lead times
- Supervise and mentor the import team, providing guidance and support for development
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field
- 5 years of experience in an import management role, with at least 2 years in a managerial position
- Strong knowledge of import regulations, customs requirements, and international shipping
- Solid understanding of financial processes, including purchase order management
- Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent negotiation, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong leadership abilities with a focus on team development and performance
- Experience in the retail, FMCG, or supply chain industries
