Hire Resolve’s client is urgently seeking the expertise of a Quantity Surveyor in Johannesburg.Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for engineering projects, including labor, materials, and overheads.
- Establish project budgets and track expenditure to ensure the project stays within financial limits.
- Assist with the procurement process, preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and recommending contractors.
- Review and manage engineering contracts, ensuring all terms and conditions are adhered to.
- Monitor project costs and report on financial performance, identifying any potential cost overruns.
- Measure and value engineering works, including site inspections and progress assessments.
- Provide cost advice on engineering materials, techniques, and methods to optimize project budgets.
- Prepare cost forecasts and financial reports to communicate project status to stakeholders.
- Manage financial risks related to engineering projects and suggest mitigation strategies.
- Certify payments to contractors based on work completed, ensuring accuracy.
- Negotiate contract terms and resolve any financial or contractual disputes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Prepare final accounts, including reconciliations of variations and changes to the original scope.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and financial management.
- Proficiency in cost estimation, budgeting, and cost control techniques.
- Experience with tendering, procurement, and contract management.
- Familiarity with engineering project practices, materials, and methods.
- Knowledge of construction laws, regulations, and safety standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Good communication and negotiation skills for working with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to use relevant software (e.g., MS Excel, CostX, or similar).
- Strong problem-solving and risk management abilities.
- Understanding of project management principles and the ability to work within deadlines.
- Membership with a professional body (e.g., RICS or equivalent) may be required or preferred.
