Overall Purpose of the JobThe Assistant Accountant supports the financial operations of the organization by ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions, reconciliation of accounts, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Education (Formal Qualification Required)
Minimum
Grade 12
Completed NQF level 7 financial qualification
Professional certification beneficial
Legal Requirements
Clear verifications: ITC, ID, Fraud, criminal check
Knowledge, Skills and Training
Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of local laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
Familiarity with payroll processing and tax compliance.
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare relevant reports.

Position Description
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Analyze, review, and interpret all accounts per the General Ledger and Trial Balance.
Ensure accurate allocation of transactions within the correct periods.
Maintain and prepare all financial records by reconciling monthly to supporting documentation and/or schedules.
Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor cash flow throughout the month.
Prepare monthly management packs and required schedules.
Journal Entries & Transaction Processing
Prepare and process all general journal entries accurately and timely.
Process recurring journals such as depreciation, amortization, and stock adjustments.
Process petty cash transactions.
Payroll & Statutory Compliance
Monthly processing and reconciliation of payroll journals.
Query and follow up on any discrepancies noted in payroll processing.
Calculate and prepare tax and other statutory returns for review prior to submission.
Support & Audit Preparation
Annual preparation of audit files and assistance to auditors during audits.
Assist with all financial-related queries from internal and external stakeholders.
Guide accounting staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
Reconciliation of Accounts
Monthly reviewing of reconciliation of debtors control accounts.
Monthly reviewing of reconciliation of creditors control accounts
Query and follow up on any discrepancies noted in debtors and creditors control accounts.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
