Minimum Experience & Qualifications
A valid and current South African guide’s license and a valid PrDP special driver’s license. FGASA Qualification: Minimum NQF 4 with Backup Trails certification. Lead Trails certification is a bonus. DEAT Registration (Mpumalanga). Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Field Guide/Ranger in a Big 5 Game Reserve environment. Valid first aid training certificate for handling trauma care.
Skills & Attributes
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with guests from different cultures and nationalities. Outgoing and approachable personality with a strong sense of hospitality. Ability to tailor guest interactions based on individual preferences (e.g., birdwatching, wildlife photography, etc.). Self-disciplined, punctual, and respectful. Problem-solving abilities to handle difficult or unforeseen situations in a remote environment. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance to assist with troubleshooting and communication with the maintenance team. Ability to drive in varied on- and off-road conditions, ensuring safety for both the guests and the vehicle. Familiarity with radio etiquette, maintaining clear and concise communication during safari activities. Cultural sensitivity when interacting with both international guests and local staff.
