Description:
Hire Resolve's Client is seeking to hire a Fitter and Turner with experience working with pumps inindustrial, commercial, or marine environments to join their team. A Fitter and Turner is responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing mechanical components and machinery. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of industrial equipment in various sectors, including manufacturing, automotive, and engineering.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Documentation
- Prepare reports, logs, and documentation as required for compliance, warranty claims, and future reference such as a strip condition report.
- Keep accurate records of work hours, work completed, materials used, and test results for each job.
2. Workshop duties
- Perform all duties as assigned.
- Perform all minor and major services.
- Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are utilized effectively and are well-maintained.
- Perform repairs, replacements, and adjustments on pumps, motors, seals, bearings, and other components as needed to restore functionality and prevent downtime.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and operational issues in pump systems using appropriate tools and techniques promptly and accurately to reduce equipment downtime.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Fabricate and modify pump parts, components, and equipment as required to meet project needs or improve system performance.
- Use lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other fabrication tools to produce or alter parts, when necessary.
- Ensure all fabricated or modified parts meet technical and safety standards.
- Provide emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as required.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to urgent situations, restoring equipment functionality as quickly as possible.
3. Installation and Repairs
- Complete pump installations, repairs, and replacements within the allocated time and ensure tasks meet quality standards.
- Dismantle and reassemble pumps accurately during maintenance or repairs, adhering to safety protocols and minimizing reoccurring issues.
- Perform replacement of pumps and related components in line with technical specifications and client requirements.
- Ensure proper alignment, fitting, and sealing of pump components, meeting quality standards without the need for post-installation corrections.
4. Testing, Calibration, and Performance Assurance
- Use specialized tools and equipment to measure and adjust pump parameters according to specified standards and requirements.
- Conduct and document performance tests and calibration procedures on pumps systems after installation or repair, ensuring they meet performance requirements.
- Ensure pumps meet quality and operational standards before commissioning.
- Carry out precision measuring and reassembly, including balancing components and calculating tolerances.
- Perform pressure testing and ensure systems meet operational specifications.
Maintenance and Preventative Measures
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on pumps and associated systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Dismantle and reassemble pumps for servicing, cleaning, or repairs, ensuring proper handling of parts.
- Replace or repair defective components, including seals, bearings, gaskets, and impellers.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and available when needed.
- Identify and report any damaged or malfunctioning tools for repair or replacement.
5. Quality, Health & Safety Management
- Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements.
- Attend daily toolbox meetings.
- Maintain the site aesthetics, cleanliness, housekeeping, and safety aspects at the highest level.
- Adhere to safety standards during all tasks to prevent incidents or injuries.
6. Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service to clients by ensuring satisfaction with services rendered.
- Communicate effectively with clients or site managers regarding project updates, requirements, or recommendations.
- Provide technical advice on pump selection, maintenance practices, and system upgrades.
7. Adhoc Tasks
- Perform irregular, one time and special request tasks related to the company.
- Perform activities as stand-in for colleague as required from time to time.
Minimum requirements:
- Trade Certification (e.g., Red Seal) in Fitting and Turning, Mechanical Fitting, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and pump operation principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic and repair tools and equipment.
- At least 3–5 years of experience working with pumps in industrial, commercial, or marine environments.
- Experience with a variety of pump types and sizes.
- Valid Driver’s Liscense
