Description:

Duties:

  • Prepare pastries and foods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc
  • Create new and interesting desserts
  • Decorate pastries using different icings and toppings
  • Monitor stock levels for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and communicate levels to Head Chef
  • Check quality and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
  • Adhere to prep sheets and report to Head Chef on a daily basis
  • Be available to assist with the monthly stock take
  • Responsible for keeping bin cards up to date
  • Monitor and log wastage on relevant log
  • Costing and design of recipes and pastry related menus
  • Ensure all stock is treated and stored with respect according to standards set up on regulation 918 or SANS 0049- refer to SOP
  • Adhere by the Head Chefs instructions and training on food quality and presentation
  • Be prepared to assist in any other kitchen department you might be needed
  • Assist head chef with menu design, costing and implementation

  • Previous experience as Pastry Chef, Baker or similar role
  • Knowledge of food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition
  • Great attention to detail and creativity
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • In depth knowledge of:
  • Sanitation principles
  • Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
  • Contactable references
