We are currently looking to employ sea-going personnel to join our fleet operating out of Saldanha Bay on the West Coast.

POSITION: MATE
REPORTING TO: SKIPPER

PURPOSE: Responsible for activities onboard a fishing trawler involving keeping navigational watch, fishing,
safety, quality, and people management.

OUTPUTS AND MEASUREMENTS:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Safety of vessel and crew
➢ Compliance with safe manning requirements.
➢ Compliance with all SAMSA, Class regulations and Maritime OSH
requirements.
• Safety of Navigation
➢ Compliance with Company Watch Keeping procedures.
➢ Completion of logbooks.
• Legislative Requirements
➢ Compliance with required legislation
• Housekeeping / Hygiene / Quality
➢ Ensure vessel is always maintained in a clean state.
➢ Ensure that hygiene requirements are strictly adhered to.
➢ Ensure that defined quality standards are met for all product caught.
• Fishing Gear Operations & Targets
➢ Ensure care & maintenance of fishing gear & associated equipment.
➢ Ensure that due care is practiced when fishing on hazardous fishing grounds
➢ Ensure that fishing targets as defined are met.
• HR Functions
➢ Ensure that discipline is always maintained
➢ Foster & promote a harmonious working environment
• Transfer of Skills
➢ Ensure that all officers and managers onboard train & mentor the transfer of
skills to the further development of all onboard the vessel.

REQUIRMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
➢ Relevant certificate of competency (CoC)
➢ Good written and verbal communication skills
➢ Ability to teach, mentor and motivate.
➢ Positive attitude and problem solving.
