Main purpose of the job
The job incumbent will safely carry out preventive maintenance and repairs and automation of equipment in line with documented work instructions. Execute improvements and projects plant wide.
In this position, the job incumbent will be part of the engineering instrumentation team at the company and play an important role in working closely with various engineering teams and other departments to achieve the desired equipment uptime and efficiency through effective planning and execution of maintenance of instrumentation equipment plant wide.
This position is a great opportunity for the incumbent to display their skills in resolving challenges associated with breakdowns, fault finding and repairs of instrumentation equipment. The job requires a self-starter, energetic individual and a doer.
The company operates on a 24hr/365day basis. Success in this role happens when the desired uptime and throughput of equipment is achieved at the lowest cost. Risk assessments, work planning and execution will form part of your daily routine.

Requirements:
- Prioritise and perform the job as outlined in the Work Order and as per the detailed Task List.
- Complete Work Order on ONKEY with the correct time and all details to the required standard.
- Provide feedback to the Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman on any task where there is a difference between the task instruction and the job requirements.
- Provide feedback and recommendations on short comings, defects and further maintenance required to restore equipment to original safe operating condition.
- Order consumables and request critical spares used.
- Investigate and diagnose problems and breakdowns.
- Conduct risk assessment before proceeding with maintenance activities.
- Carry out repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance work on equipment.
- Monitor the efficiency of maintained equipment and machinery.
- Effectively maintain toolkit.
- Maintain the rotable spares.
- Obtain work permit.
- Prioritise maintenance activities according to production requirements where required.
- Carry out plant inspections, action shortcomings where possible & report on integrity and safety matters.
- Identify improvement possibilities and give feedback to the departmental foreman.
- Develop PLC programs and attend to changes.
- Develop SCADA mimic pages.
- IT networking experience - Ethernet.
- Execute instrumentation related project work plant wide, from initiation to final handover and keep related paperwork up to date.
- Maintain a clean working environment.

- 3-4 years’ experience in instrumentation as an instrumentation technician, post qualification in a heavy industrial environment.
- Computer literacy (Intermediate to advanced).
- Advanced PLC programming (Preferable Schneider PLC).
- SCADA Programming (Preferable Adroit Classic).
- Driver’s licence.
- Plant and workshop based, exposed to hazardous chemicals and biological agents.
- Regular travelling required (local).
- Standby required.
