Description:

A defence company in Cape Town is seeking a technical writer.
  • We are looking for an experienced Technical Writer to produce clear, concise, and accurate documentation for complex aerospace systems. In this role, you will work closely with engineering teams, product managers, and subject matter experts to translate complex technical information into user-friendly manuals, guides, specifications, and other supporting documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, and maintain a wide range of technical documents, including user manuals, operation guides, installation procedures, technical specifications, and maintenance documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and subject matter experts to gather information and ensure the accuracy and clarity of all documents.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements in all documentation.
  • Produce visually clear and consistent content, including diagrams, flowcharts, and illustrations when needed.
  • Review and revise documentation for consistency, readability, and formatting.
  • Develop and maintain document templates and style guides.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to support documentation needs throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Organize and manage technical documentation to ensure it is up to date and easily accessible.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports for presentations, proposals, and customer submissions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the aerospace or engineering industry.
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace systems, components, and terminology.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and technical writing tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, etc.).
  • Experience creating diagrams, charts, and graphics using tools like Visio, Adobe Illustrator, or similar software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as MIL-STD, AS9100, or similar aerospace quality standards is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical teams.
